Champions League: BVB coach Edin Terzic gambles away against Paris St. Germain! | Sports

The wall tactic goes wrong!

Survive a half time Borussia Dortmund with three central defenders and no real striker – but then PSG strikes ice cold.

Paris St Germain Dortmund strikes Champions League-Started 2-0. Kylian Mbappé (24) converts a hand penalty caused by Niklas Süle (28) to make it 1-0 for Paris (49th). Of all people, ex-BVB professional Achraf Hakimi (24, in Dortmund from 2018 to 2020) made it 2-0 (58th).

BVB coach Edin Terzic (40) surprisingly did without a real center forward in his starting line-up in Paris. Niclas Füllkrug (30), Sebastien Haller (29) and Youssoufa Moukoko (18) are all just sitting on the bench. Instead, the fast Donyell Malen (24) and Karim Adeyemi (21) attack.

But with this scaredy-cat tactic, Terzic gambles away! BVB is almost completely harmless in the first half, PSG dominates with almost 80 percent possession.

Also an early shock for BVB: Marcel Sabitzer (29) was injured without any influence from the opponent and had to go out injured in the 14th minute. Felix Nmecha (22) comes into play for him.

Overdue: At the beginning of the second half, the defensive bulwark is cracked. Mbappé hits Süle’s arm from very close range (47th). Referee Gil Manzano immediately decides: penalty! A controversial decision. The French superstar doesn’t care, he coolly converts to make it 1-0 for Paris (49th).

BILD referee Thorsten Kinhöfer (55): “The interpretation corresponds to UEFA’s specifications. That’s why the referee did everything right. But in terms of football, I think this interpretation is wrong.”

Terzic: “We have discussed it in recent years, we will discuss it in the next few years. As long as there is no clear line, there is little we can do about it.”

BVB doesn’t think of much after that and remains harmless. Instead, PSG strikes again and combines easily. Hakimi scores against his former club to make it 2-0 (58th). Only with the substitutions of offensive players Marco Reus and Füllkrug (62nd) did Dortmund get a little better. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens misses the best chance and hits the post (79th).

But the rebellion comes too late: Terzic gambles away with his defensive tactics – harmless at the front, too vulnerable at the back.

BVB captain Emre Can (29): “We ran after the ball. That wasn’t good, we lost the ball too quickly.”

And further: “We can play football better, run the ball better. We make mistakes that are too easy and don’t play cleanly enough. This has to get better.”

Terzic: “We gave the balls away much too quickly.”

In the group’s parallel game, AC Milan and Newcastle United were already playing 0-0 at the early kick-off time (6:45 p.m.).

Dortmund hosts Milan on the second matchday of the Champions League (October 4th). BVB is already under pressure there.
