Champions League: Bellingham leads Madrid to victory, Arsenal disappoints – Sport

The once again inconspicuous Kai Havertz suffered a surprising Champions League defeat with Arsenal FC, while Bayern’s group opponents Manchester United are also in crisis in the premier class. Arsenal lost 1:2 (1:1) at French outsiders RC Lens on Tuesday evening. United lost 2:3 (1:1) against Bayern’s next opponent Galatasaray Istanbul at Old Trafford.

Co-favorites Real Madrid, on the other hand, won 3-2 (2-1) at SSC Napoli thanks to another strong Jude Bellingham. For Benfica Lisbon and coach Roger Schmidt, however, the second matchday was disappointing: the Portuguese football champions lost 0-1 (0-0) at Inter Milan.

Things had actually started well in Lens for Havertz, who was substituted in the 71st minute, and the Gunners. Gabriel Jesus (14th minute) gave the guests the lead. But then the French turned the game around in front of their home crowd. Adrien Thomasson (25th) and Elye Wahi (69th) scored the goals.

Man United loses two leads

Manchester United had nothing to celebrate. Rasmus Höjlund (17th/67th) had given United the lead twice – but in the end Galatasaray won. Wilfried Zaha (23rd), Kerem Akturkoglu (71st) and Mauro Icardi (81st) scored for the Turks, who benefited from a sending off against United’s Casemiro (77th).

Real, however, are on track after Union Berlin’s second win in the group. Vinícius Júnior (27th), Bellingham (34th) and an own goal from Naples goalkeeper Alex Meret (78th) ensured the victory for the Royals. Leo Östigard (19th) and Piotr Zielinski (54th) scored the goals for the hosts.

Benfica and former Bundesliga coach Schmidt suffered their second defeat on matchday two. Former Gladbacher Marcus Thuram (62nd) scored the decisive goal for last year’s finalists Inter.
