CFDT and CFTC in favor of signing an agreement

The CFDT and the CFTC announced Friday evening their intention to sign a draft agreement defining the conditions of compensation for the unemployed from January 1, 2024, following a laborious negotiation.

The CFDT delegation “has a positive opinion on the draft agreement”, declared Olivier Guivarch, the negotiator of the first French union, adding that this opinion will still have to be endorsed by the national office of the organization on November 16.

“We used all the passageways that we could develop,” added Olivier. Guivarch. “We are ready to sign it, now it still needs to be approved,” said Eric Courpotin, his CFTC counterpart. FO said it was waiting for the decision from its confederal office on Monday, while noting that “the red lines have fallen”, according to negotiator Michel Beaugas.

The government will “study” the compatibility of the agreement drawn up by the social partners with the objectives that it had set for them upstream in a framework letter, indicated for its part the Ministry of Labor.

Representatives of the CGT and CFE-CGC indicated for their part that they did not plan to sign.

Under the agreement, job seekers registering for the first time will be able to receive compensation after five months of work in the last 24 months, instead of the current six months. “A concrete and fair measure”, welcomed the CFDT.

The changes to the conditions of compensation for seniors following the pension reform, which the government wanted to see included in the agreement, were ultimately referred to a negotiation on the employment of seniors, despite the initial desire of employers’ organizations to include them.

The bosses, who wanted to lower their unemployment insurance contributions from 4.05% to 3.95%, finally accepted a reduction half as large, of 0.05%.
