CES 2022: Highlights and innovations of the technology fair

Although numerous exhibitors canceled CES 2022 in advance, the technology fair opened its doors this year despite the Corona situation. There is no shortage of innovations.

Microsoft, Google, Meta, Amazon, T-Mobile, Hisense, Waymo, Intel, General Motors and many other industry giants stayed away from the CES this year due to the corona situation or moved their trade fair presence to the Internet. But for the organizers of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas the motto was apparently “The Show Must Go On”. Because after the CES had already canceled last year, they probably didn’t want to miss the technology break a second time.

To what extent this will affect the spread of any virus mutations, or whether there will even be an in-house Vegas variant, cannot be said at this point in time. What can be seen from CES so far is definitely good news. Because although the visitor masses this year did not come close to the level of the years before Corona, the number of exciting new products is surprisingly high.

In principle, the relevant TV manufacturers Samsung, LG and Sony also represent the motto “higher, faster, further” this year. Sony announced eight new model series, seven of them 4K and one 8K TV. The screen diagonals range from 43 inches to 85 inches, the exact prices for all new products are still open.

Samsung showed its new Neo-QLED televisions, some of which have innovative wall brackets that rotate the screens by 90 degrees at the push of a button and are therefore ideally positioned for vertical content. In addition, some models offer an “EyeComfort” mode, which, similar to smartphones, is intended to reduce brightness and the proportion of blue light if the environment allows it. The idea of creating a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFT), through which Samsung TV owners can buy individual digital pieces of images, is a little wilder. The new remote controls that Samsung are loudly speaking are much more mundane The Verge want to include some devices in the future. With these, changing batteries should be a thing of the past, as the snaps charge themselves via radio waves.
