Grammy winner Harry Styles also won at the Brit Awards. The British pop star scooped up awards in every category in which he was nominated. Beyoncé and the band Wet Leg also received awards.

Pop superstar Harry Styles is the big winner of this year’s Brit Awards with four awards. With his album “Harry’s House”, the 29-year-old won the award in the most important category “Album of the Year” at the award ceremony in London, as he did at the Grammys a week ago. He also scooped Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop/R&B Act trophies.

“This album and this song was the most fun I’ve ever had making music,” the former One Direction singer said in one of his acceptance speeches. Styles thus secured the award in all four categories in which he had been nominated.

Indie rock duo Wet Leg also had four nominations. They got the awards for best band and best new artist. Grammy record winner Beyoncé, who was recognized as an international artist and for international song of the year, “Break My Soul”, also won two awards – but she did not come to the award ceremony in London.

Only men nominated for best artist

Alongside the Grammys awarded in Los Angeles, the Brit Awards are among the most important music prizes in the world. Since last year, the categories are no longer separated by gender. Those responsible responded to criticism from singer Sam Smith, who had identified as non-binary and complained that he could not be nominated in any category.

This year, apart from Styles, only men were nominated for best artist. In his acceptance speech, he mentioned a number of artists who had been shortlisted for the Brit Awards but were not shortlisted.

He was very aware of his “privilege,” Styles said on stage. “That’s why this award is for Rina, Charli, Florence, Mabel and Becky,” he said, referring to singers Rina Sawayama, Charli XCX, Florence Welch, Mabel and Becky Hill.

In addition to Styles, who opened the evening’s show with his song “As It Was,” there were also performances by Wet Leg and nominees Lewis Capaldi, Lizzo, Cat Burns, Sam Smith and Kim Petras.
