Centenarian skydives and breaks record

“Age is just a number.” This is the motto of 104-year-old Dorothy Hoffner and she really lives it! Sunday October 1, the centenarian left her walker behind to parachute from a plane. Originally from Chicago, Illinois in the United States, Dorothy achieved a feat by tandem skydiving from more than 4,000 meters.

Once both feet were on the ground, she was greeted with a round of applause. “It was wonderful, I enjoyed it. And I didn’t understand why these people were there. But like I said, all I did was get older, get older. I’m not old, just older,” Dorothy explains.

New projects in mind

If the American has indeed achieved a feat by skydiving at her age, the record must still be approved by the Guinness Book. The previous world record for the oldest parachutist was previously held by Swedish Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson, 103 years old.

And if this jump can satisfy more than one, Dorothy wants to realize new dreams. The American is due to turn 105 in December and says she would like to relax next summer by… taking a hot air balloon ride!
