A new documentary about Céline Dion, who suffers from stiff person syndrome, is due to be released at the end of June. A trailer shows moving images.

Céline Dion (56) suffers from the so-called stiff person syndrome. In a new documentary, she wants to give insights into her life with the rare disease. A new trailer for “I Am: Celine Dion” shows moving moments with the Canadian singer.

“I wasn’t ready to talk about it until now”

“I need my instrument,” says Dion at the beginning of the two-minute clip – referring to her voice, which has guided her through her life like a conductor. “I was diagnosed with a very rare neurological disease. And I wasn’t ready to talk about it until now. But now I am,” says Dion. The disease, which she made public in 2022, causes muscle hardening and often cramps. The singer had largely withdrawn from the public eye and also had to cancel a tour.

She loves every part of her life, explains Dion in the trailer. The 56-year-old tearfully explains how much she misses her fans: “You know, it’s not difficult to do a show. It’s difficult to cancel a show.” The singer works hard on herself every day. It’s a struggle, but she also indicates that she doesn’t want to give up and wants to return. If she can’t run, then she’ll walk. And if she can’t walk, the singer will crawl.

In March 2024, she had already declared on Instagram that she was determined to “get back on stage one day and live as normal a life as possible.” Shortly before, in February, she had caused a surprise with a public appearance at the Grammys.

“I Am: Celine Dion” will be available on Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video from June 25th. A press release says that the documentary is also “a love letter to her fans”.
