CDU files criminal complaint over fake election posters in Leipzig

The Leipzig CDU district association has filed a complaint about fake election posters. The police confirmed this to MDR SACHSEN. According to the report, at least five examples have been discovered and removed in Leipzig so far. State security has begun investigations. Unknown persons had put up fake CDU posters in Leipzig and beyond. Instead of the CDU slogan “Leipzig. Safe. Make.”, it reads “Leipzig. Unsafe. Make.”. A sign with curved letters proclaims “Dare more caliphate!”.

Andreas Nowak, CDU district chairman in Leipzig, told MDR that the posters looked deceptively real. Only at second glance could you tell that they were fakes. “We’ve had a new color scheme for a few weeks now. And the posters are completely in our new party look. People really sat down and recreated them with great effort.”

Nowak suspects a “certain logistics” behind it, because the fake posters have also been reported from Chemnitz and the Zwickau district, among other places. Nowak said there was a possibility of copyright infringement. Further legal steps would be considered.
