Günther Oettinger is one of the first to congratulate him – and maybe that’s a sign. Oettinger was, after all, the last Christian Democrat to win a state election in Baden-Württemberg. He celebrated a triumph in 2006 with 44.2 percent of the vote before the Southwest CDU collapsed spectacularly.
