The Arabic name Gamal means beauty. This was the name of President Gamal Abdel Nasser, who ruled Egypt from 1954 to 1970 and is still revered in the Arab world. Those who are involved in politics in Germany today, and also in the CSU, tend to omit this first name: The CSU member of the Bundestag Alexander Gamal Radwan, for example, appears on his website and on election posters as “Alexander Radwan”, in traditional costume or with a dog.
