Cauliflower: This is how florets become savory popcorn

They look like popcorn and taste like Asian heaven: cauliflower florets in a spicy breading.

Does anyone remember Asian food from the 80s? That was the time when many Germans thought Chinese food consisted of fried spring rolls in a gooey sweet and sour sauce and crispy pork and canned pineapple. These dishes were a mix of migrant influences and local preferences.

The migrants’ traditions adapt – and many of them become inventive with the products they find in their new home. For example, the Popcorn Chicken from a well-known frying chain. The cauliflower popcorn we are preparing this week can be interpreted as a mixture of Asian influences and fast food – meatless and crispy and nutty in taste.
