A change has taken place at the head of the Catholic German Women’s Federation (KDFB) in Bavaria: Birgit Kainz (59) from Salching near Straubing was elected the new state chairman on Saturday in Augsburg. The previous deputy succeeds the former Bavarian Minister of Social Affairs Emilia Müller (70), who headed the association for four years, as the KDFB announced. Kainz’s deputies are Anne-Marie Ederer (61) from Grafenau, Tanja Pichlmeier (39) from Pfeffenhausen, Sabine Slawik (60) from Augsburg and the CSU member of the state parliament and former Social Affairs Minister Carolina Trautner (61).
At its delegates’ meeting, the women’s association spoke out in favor of an option time model. According to the notification, it provides for a legally and financially secure time budget of nine years per employee. It can be used for childcare, nursing, voluntary work and further education. “The work has to fit the families – not the families to work,” said Kainz. “It’s time to break up old structures and create space for a self-determined, needs-oriented way of life – breathing CVs.” So far, the KDFB complained that the interruptions and reductions in working hours in the course of employment, mostly carried out by women, were generally sanctioned negatively. This led to losses in wages, careers and social security.
With 150,000 members, the Catholic German Women’s Association of Bavaria claims to be the largest women’s association in Bavaria. Founded in 1911, building on the foundation of the Christian faith, it is committed to a wide range of activities for equal rights and equal opportunities for women in church, politics, society and business.
