She was sitting on thousands of euros and didn’t know it – that’s why Horst Lichter loves the saleswoman

The saleswoman is touched when she finds out the estimated value of her seating area at “Bares für Rares”. Horst Lichter then takes her in his arms.

The seating area comes from a household clearance. At “Cash for Rares” it turns out to be a valuable designer piece – much to the delight of the saleswoman.

“Well, that looks inviting,” says Horst Lichter happily when he sees the seating area in the expert room of “Cash for Rares”. It belongs to Tanja Candarella and her mother Gabi Knott from Bonn. Knott’s husband took the table and chairs with them when they were clearing out a house, but they want to get rid of the furniture due to lack of space.

As Sven Deutschmanek explains, the table-chair combination was designed in 1971 by the famous Danish furniture designer Verner Panton and is called “Pantonova”. The material is chrome-plated tubular steel. “It looks a bit like a shopping cart,” says the expert.

“Cash for Rares”: The expert scares the saleswomen

Gabi Knott says the desired price is between 1,000 and 5,000 euros. The expert initially gives the sellers little hope of realizing this sum: “There is no 1,000 or 5,000 euros for that,” Deutschmanek begins his estimate. “You really have to hold the ball a little higher,” he continues – and then resolves the tension: He estimates the value of the seating area at 7,000 to 9,000 euros.

Mother and daughter can’t contain themselves because of their joy. There are even tears in Knott’s eyes. Lichter then takes the saleswoman in his arms.

In the dealer’s room, Julian Schmitz-Avila, Jan Čížek and Leo Leo try out the seating area. Čížek starts the auction with 1,000 euros – knowing full well that this sum will not be nearly enough. When it reaches 2,000 euros, Schmitz-Avila asks about the expertise – and then increases it directly to 5,000 euros. He hasn’t yet outdone his competitors. In the end, however, he was awarded the contract – for the proud price of 7,500 euros.
