That doesn’t happen often at “Bares für Rares”: Horst Lichter had to have a quick, serious word with his guest. However, there was a little surprise in the dealer room.

Nicole Schulz and Bernhard Kurkowski have a bronze sculpture in tow as they make their way from Aachen to ““Cash for Rares”. Kurkowski was once bequeathed it by an acquaintance, but for reasons of space he passed it on to his good friend Nicole. But she wasn’t very enthusiastic about it.

When Horst Lichter hears what the sculpture represents, he fully understands the woman’s reaction – and takes his male guest to his prayers. The bronze is said to show a pregnant woman. “Imagine if she gave you a marble figure of a naked man,” says the moderator. “Then you would have said: ‘Nicole, that’s nice of you, but…'”

“Cash for Rares”: Surprise in the dealer room

As Detlev Kümmel explains, the figure has the title “Pregnancy”. The creator is the Lithuanian artist Isaac Kahn. According to the expert, the sculpture was created in the late 80s and early 90s. Nicole Schulz would like 1,500 euros for her work of art. But Detlev Kümmel thinks even more is possible: He estimates the value at 1,800 to 2,000 euros, much to the delight of the saleswoman.

The next surprise comes in the dealer’s room: “Bernd, is that you?” asks Steve Mandel when the two people from Aachen enter the room. And then explains to his colleagues: “I know the gentleman. He’s a good acquaintance of mine.”

Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz starts the auction with 300 euros. Almost everyone present bids, and so the price quickly rises to over 1000 euros. In the end, Fabian Kahl was awarded the contract for 1,400 euros. Wolfgang Pauritsch is happy for his colleague – and saleswoman Nicole Schulz is thrilled about all the money.
