The saleswoman at “Cash for Rares” wanted 3,000 euros for an old silver cup. The expertise was a cold shower, but then we went into the dealer room.

Helga and Karlheinz Walther from Zwickau brought a plain silver tankard with them.Cash for Rares”. However, they believe that they have “an extraordinarily valuable, historical and beautiful piece”. As proof of this, the couple brought several letters with them. As the documents show, Helga Walther’s great-great-grandfather received the trophy from Prince Pückler, ” out of gratitude for providing horses”.

As expert Heide Rezepa-Zabel explains, Hermann von Pückler-Muskau is the well-known “green prince”. He lived from 1785 to 1871 and was a colorful personality. He had a great fondness for horses, which is how the correspondence came about.

“Cash for Rares”: The expert corrects the desired price downwards

The seller would like 3,000 euros for this historic jug. But the expert throws a wrench in her plans. The silver value is only 300 euros. Without the letters, Rezepa-Zabel would value the property at 800 to 850 euros. With the papers she increases the estimated value to 1000 to 1200 euros.

That’s well below her desired price, but Helga Walther still takes the dealer card and wants to try her luck. Now she’s hoping for a “princely commandment.” And they actually come. The story of her great-great-grandfather aroused the dealers’ interest, and so, contrary to his custom, Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz started with 450 euros.

Everyone present bids, and the price skyrockets. The bids soon exceed the estimated value. In the end it is Daniel Meyer and Leo Leo who keep outdoing each other in a breathtaking duel. The hammer only falls at 4100 euros, and Leo wins the contract for this price. This far exceeds the seller’s desired price.
