The saleswoman would sell her grandfather’s two vases at “Bares für Rares” for just a few hundred euros. But the dealers are enthusiastic – and it reaches four figures.

Kathrin Sielaff and her friend Stefan Woischner brought two vases with them.Cash for Rares”. These are family heirlooms from Sielaff’s grandfather, which the woman now wants to part with.

As Friederike Werner explains, the pair of vases is made of sterling silver. But it gets even better: the two vessels come from a famous manufacturer and a famous designer, according to the expert. The moderator is also happy: “It couldn’t be better,” says Horst Lichter. The design dates from 1926, you can see the Art Deco. They were designed by Harald Nielsen for the Copenhagen silversmith Georg Jensen. The vases were manufactured after 1945 and are part of a popular series that has been reissued.

“Cash for Rares”: It will reach four figures

The expert describes the state of preservation as “quite good”, but you can tell that they were used. Kathrin Sielaff would like 300 to 350 euros for the two vases. The expert estimates a completely different price: Werner estimates the value of the two pieces at 800 to 1200 euros.

Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz starts the auction with 450 euros. In the next step, Fabian Kahl goes much further: He offers 400 euros per vase, i.e. 800 euros, which means that the lower limit of the estimated value has been reached. Wolfgang Pauritsch even increased it to 900 euros, but the sellers are not yet completely satisfied. And so the bidding race continues – in the end it reaches four figures: the two Art Deco vessels change hands for 1,050 euros, and in the end Pauritsch has beaten out his competitors.

“That was a really nice day,” says Kathrin Sielaff afterwards. She now wants to enjoy it with all the money.
