The first piece of wreckage only appeared after more than a year. On a beach on the island of Réunion, locals discovered a 2.7 meter long piece of metal that was heavily mossy and overgrown with algae. It had been floating in the waters of the Indian Ocean for a long time and had weathered accordingly, but it was still visible that it must have once been part of an aircraft, a piece of the wing. Since it has a tightly sealed cavity due to its design, it floated on the surface of the water.
