The accident happened near the city of Larissa. Fire engines and ambulances from surrounding towns drove to the scene of the accident. Rescuers took injured passengers to hospitals and freed others from the rubble. The military had been asked for help, and two other hospitals in Larissa had been put into emergency mode.

The cause of the accident is still unclear.
