Carola Rackete: “I’ve done boring things before” – Politics

Carola Rackete, 35, sits in a Turkish café at Kottbusser Tor in Berlin and orders breakfast. A few years ago she became known throughout Europe: in 2019, Rackete captained a ship with rescued refugees into the port of the Italian island of Lampedusa – after weeks of struggling with the authorities and against the will of the government at the time. Now she is running for the Left in the European elections. At the end of the conversation with the South German newspaper She will only move two tables away, where two British reporters will be waiting Guardian on them. “Sorry,” she says, “I like to organize efficiently.”
