The Kansas City Chiefs won the most important sporting event in the USA at the weekend – the Superbowl. Now they wanted to celebrate their success in their homeland. But suddenly shots are fired.

At least one person is on the sidelines of a parade honoring the football team after shots were fired Kansas City Chiefs lost their lives. Numerous other people were injured in the incident in Kansas City, Missouri, several US media outlets unanimously reported, citing the fire department. At least three of the injured are in critical condition. Police said two armed suspects were arrested.

According to official information, the shots were fired near the train station near a parking garage. It was unclear whether the crime was connected to the victory parade. TV images showed how the event site was evacuated. The Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their fourth Super Bowl title at the big parade.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his team were cheered on at the parade by thousands of fans along the three-kilometer route through Kansas City. Players and coaches traveled in a red double-decker bus. Since many schools remained closed for the day, there were also numerous children among the fans. “I’m praying for Kansas City,” wrote Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs on X (formerly Twitter).

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25:22 after overtime in Las Vegas in the National Football League final on Sunday. The Chiefs had previously won the so-called Vince Lombardi Trophy in 1970, 2020 and 2023. According to the media, superstar Taylor Swift did not accompany her boyfriend Travis Kelce to the parade and victory speeches in Kansas City, unlike on Sunday.
