It is one of the most photographed houses in Brittany. Like the famous houses between the rocks of Plougrescant or the one on the small island of Saint-Cado, the building located just next to the alignments of Carnac (Morbihan) is one of the postcards of the region. Listed a year ago, the property has so far not found a taker. It is now done. “An offer was made and it was accepted. We are in the process of drafting a compromise, ”explains Pierre-Arnaud Vicente.
Last year, the director of the Century 21 real estate agency in Plouharnel was contacted by the owner, who wanted to part with his family property. The estimate made by the state had not convinced her and the man had turned to the Ocean agency. On sale at 300,000 euros, the building of three rooms and 100 m² had seen its price be lowered to 260,000 euros these last weeks. “We have had several visits. But the constraints of the environment close to the house blocked several buyers ”.
This “close environment” is not the most common. Nicknamed “the house of menhirs”, the house is located in the middle of the alignments of Carnac, visited and photographed by hundreds of thousands of curious people each year. Owned by individuals until 1883, the menhirs park had been sold to the State. The house remained there. Retaining a right of way in the “garden” where the animals have spent years grazing, before giving way to tourists.
The mystery of the menhirs endures …
In an article of our colleaguesWest France, we learn that the current owner, André Tual, inherited this house from his father, who bought it in 1954. If the sales agreement is validated, it will return to the hands of a local merchant, located near Auray . “I think I might cry when this house is bought,” the former oyster farmer told our colleagues. History doesn’t say if this badass did.
About 3,000 standing stones stand in Carnac and La Trinité-sur-Mer. But there were undoubtedly many more at the time of their “installation”, estimated between 4,000 and 5,000 years before Jesus Christ. What were they used for? It is still ignored today. The mystery continues.
