Carl Pei in an interview: “Apple and Samsung have lost courage”

Carl Pei caused a stir in the tech industry with his Oneplus brand. Now he has founded a new company with Nothing – and wants to continue where Apple and Co. gave up in his opinion.

In the past few decades, the tech industry has produced many celebrities: Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs. At 34, Carl Pei, a Chinese-born Swedish entrepreneur, is well on his way to joining the ranks of these names.

He dropped out of his studies at the Stockholm Business School and founded the smartphone brand Oneplus with his former boss Pete Lau. That was ten years ago. The first device was sold almost a million times – although only 50,000 devices were expected. Instead of resting on his success, Pei took a risk again after ten years – and left Oneplus. For his 31st birthday, he says, he gave himself a new company: Nothing.
