Fittingly, the good news came right in the run-up to Christmas: public sector employees in the federal states should receive a whopping 3,000 euros extra – tax and duty-free. Verdi and the civil service association had agreed on this with the federal states. “An amount of 1,800 euros net will be granted for December 2023,” Verdi announced in a press release on December 9th. The rest will be paid out in monthly payments of 120 euros from January onwards. The conclusion is likely to have pleased the approximately 227,000 civil servants and a good 150,000 public sector employees in Bavaria – including educators, teachers, police officers, nursing staff and administrative employees. The only problem is: not a cent has arrived in Bavaria so far.
