Nothing goes in Las Vegas without a spectacle. In Nevada’s gambling metropolis there is an eleven-story glass tower that is filled with cars. As with a slot machine, the customer inserts a coin into a slot, pulls a lever and gets his rolling jackpot delivered.

If you drive along the Las Vegas Freeway, shortly before the zoo of the German magicians Siegfried and Roy with the sonorous name “Siegfried & Roy ‘s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat” rises an eleven-story glass tower. This is nothing unusual in a city like Las Vegas, where there is one huge hotel complex after the other. But in the rectangular Plexiglas building there are cars like in the past at Smart or in Munich at the Mercedes branch on the Mittlerer Ring.

The Carvana tower is not a simple monstrous presentation area like at Mercedes, but a slot machine, a one-armed bandit, as you can find in Lucky Vegas in almost every street corner and of course in the many casinos. But the main prize is not a chunk of money, but a car. The procedure is impressive and magically attracts American car buyers from all over Nevada: You receive a token, put it in a slot and pull a large lever like a classic one-armed bandit and there is the jackpot. “We want to offer customers a unique experience when they pick up their car and a slot machine is a perfect match for Las Vegas,” says salesman Infinite Murphy.

The delivery is really impressive and is reminiscent of the delivery to VW’s Transparent Factory in Dresden. As if by magic, a plateau moves and comes down in a car. The spectacle is controlled by Infinite Murphy’s tablet. Because Carvana is a large used car dealer with headquarters in Tempe, Arizona. “We sell around five to ten cars a day here. In addition, there are around 15 to 20 that are delivered from our warehouse”; explains Infinite Murphy. In America, however, almost no one drives to a large parking lot to pick up their new darling. At Carvana, the car is ordered one day and delivered the next day. Then the seven-day test phase begins before the buyer decides whether to keep the car.

Carvana has grown to become one of the largest online car dealers in the United States, selling 244,111 cars last year for $ 5.587 billion. “For us, the focus is on the customer. Buying a car should be as relaxed as possible for them,” says Murphy, who nods with a smile when asked, “Something like Amazon for cars”. The Carvana principle is based on a huge database that online customers can use. In contrast to Germany, in the USA there is no big deal or configuration when buying a car. You buy a car from the yard. That is why the brand and number of horsepower are already fixed before you start your game with the huge slot machine.

In addition to the glass car tower in Las Vegas, the replenishment for the 39 boxes is already ready. Cars like a BMW 430i, a Jaguar XJ or a Kia Stinger are parked in the parking lot. A box is felt right now. Because in the afternoon someone wants to pick up his new vehicle – a Porsche Panamera, which in its glass box points to its new owner, who first sinks his coin in the slot, pulls the lever towards him and then watches as the car takes the elevator from the eleventh floor is shut down. The Las Vegas Auto Tower is one of 28 in the United States. The bases, which can be seen from afar, are located in metropolises such as Los Angeles, Nashville, Washington DC or Chicago. However, the Carvana building is currently the only car slot machine.
