Missing electronic chips had already caused problems for the world’s largest car manufacturer in the previous months. Toyota now expects around 500,000 fewer vehicles.

The world’s largest carmaker Toyota is making further cuts in its production targets due to a lack of parts. In the current fiscal year (end of March), only 9.2 million vehicles are likely to be manufactured, the Japanese said on Tuesday.

In the previous months, the lack of electronic chips in particular had restricted production, which is why the group had already admitted in October that it would no longer be able to produce the previously estimated 9.7 million vehicles. In December, missing parts in particular are likely to hamper production due to the spread of Covid, Toyota said.
