New name for the group with the star. He wants to concentrate on the business with cars and vans and is not least focusing on electromobility.
The car manufacturer Daimler AG has said goodbye to its name and is now called Mercedes-Benz Group AG. This heralds a new era, as the carmaker announced on Tuesday in Stuttgart.
In the course of a far-reaching corporate restructuring, the top management around CEO Ola Källenius had already announced the step last year. In December, Daimler spun off Daimler Truck’s large truck business from the group and took it public. The renaming of the remaining Daimler AG is intended to clarify the focus on the prestigious business with cars and vans.
“We are reflecting on the core of our company for everyone to see – building the most desirable automobiles in the world,” said Källenius. The group with the star wants to take the lead in electromobility and vehicle software.
According to Mercedes, the company’s stock market abbreviation will also change from “DAI” to “MBG” with the renaming. The company said there were no further changes for shareholders. “The shares of Mercedes-Benz Group AG remain a member of the German share index Dax.”
