Cannes Film Festival: The program is full of glamor – culture

Kristen Stewart, Tom Cruise, David Cronenberg, Kirill Serebrennikow: The program at the Cannes festival is set.

The Cannes Festival announced the official program for the 75th edition on Thursday – and it promises glamour. Tom Cruise will arrive with Top Gun: Maverick, and Tom Hanks with the musical biopic Elvis, in which he plays the superstar’s seedy manager. The film was directed by musical specialist Baz Luhrman (“Moulin Rouge”). Acclaimed Mad Max director George Miller presents Three Thousand Years of Longing, starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. These three Hollywood productions are out of competition.

But many star-studded films will also be screened in the official competition. David Cronenberg is represented with “Crimes of the Future” starring Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen. James Gray presents “Armageddon Time” with Anne Hathaway and Anthony Hopkins. And many author film stars such as Park Chan-Wook (“Oldboy”), Ruben Östlund (“The Square”) and Kelly Reichardt (“First Cow”) will also be represented. It is a program that will make those responsible for the Berlinale green with envy, who only managed to put together a weak line-up this year.

Also in Cannes will be the Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa and his Russian colleague Kirill Serebrennikov. So that the two don’t have to compete against each other, the Russian contribution will be shown in the competition, the Ukrainian one as a “special screening”.

The anniversary edition, which takes place from May 17th to 28th, will open with the French zombie comedy “Z (comme Z)”. Some other festival participants and the jury are to be announced in the coming weeks.
