The 2013 drama “Dallas Buyers Club” directed by Vallée won Oscars for starring Matthew McConaughey and supporting actor Jared Leto. As a result, Vallée was sought after as a filmmaker in Hollywood.
“I try not to interfere too much”
The Canadian has also directed Big Little Lies and Victoria the Young Queen starring Emily Blunt. He also directed “The Big Trip – Wild” with Reese Witherspoon. Vallée received an Emmy for the director of “Big Little Lies”.
In his directorial work, Vallée often relied on natural light and used handheld cameras. He allowed his actors to improvise with the script and to move freely around the location of a scene.
