“Days like these” is the Toten Hosen’s most successful song. The piece has now been covered in English by pop singer Anastacia – Campino is impressed.

With “Days like these” the Toten Hosen have achieved a real mega hit. The song is not particularly popular with many long-established fans of the former punk band because they think it leans too much towards the mainstream. But that’s probably why the song, released in 2012, is such a perennial favorite and is played at weddings as well as funerals.

Now the English-speaking audience is also getting acquainted with the hit, for which the trousers were awarded three times platinum in Germany: US pop singer Anastacia covered the hit. In their version, it’s called “Best Days”. Half-Englishman Campino is quite pleased with the overall result. “It’s nice to hear the song from a real singer. It’s definitely sung better than the original,” he told the “Rheinische Post”.

Campino wrote the English text himself

Campino, who has had dual citizenship since 2019, translated the text into English “many years ago”. The version was then in the record company’s archive. Instead of “On days like these one wishes for infinity” it says, for example, “These are the best days, the best days of our lives.” For her album “Our Songs”, which is to be released in autumn, Anastacia has also covered other songs by German bands such as Unheilig in English.

Helene Fischer also covered “Days Like These” at a concert. According to Campino, he does not know the excerpt at all: “I have never seen or heard Helene Fischer’s version,” he told the “Rheinische Post”. The worst cover version of the song came from the CDU: At the party after the 2013 general election, Union politicians sang along to “Days Like These”, danced and waved the German flag. “In this respect, the song is steadily improving,” says the 60-year-old.

After that, Angela Merkel called “Mr. Campino” personally, “because we trampled on your song last Sunday,” the singer later said in the band biography “In the beginning was the noise”. Merkel assured him that the song would not “become the next CDU anthem”.
