By winning against OL, PSG takes the lead in the championship

OL lost their lead in D1. Paris Saint-Germain took first place in the French women’s football championship on Sunday by winning at Groupama Stadium at the expense of Lyon (1-0), in a match of the 11th day of D1.

The Parisiennes, who are now one point ahead of OL, took a decisive advantage in the 87th minute with a goal from Kadidiatou Diani who took over, at the far post, a corner from Bachaman, deflected with a header by Elsa de Almeida to score his 9th goal of the season in D1. This is the only action on which goalkeeper Christiane Endler had the possibility of intervening in a rather pleasant meeting to follow despite the intense cold (-5 degrees).

First defeat of the season for OL in D1

This goal rewarded the serious match of PSG which was able to resist OL which conceded their first defeat of the season in the league for a draw (against Guingamp, red lantern, 0-0). The Parisian club had not won on the road to Lyon since November 2014 (1-0).

“There is a lot of disappointment for me and the players”, regretted Sonia Bompastor, the Lyon coach. “The result is not in line with our expectations and is cruel. You have to be able to be more killer. (but) Nothing is played for the title for which I remain very optimistic”. The Lyonnaises can indeed only blame themselves when they had control of the match even if the Parisiennes had better possession of the ball.

Now for the Champions League

Sonia Bompastor’s players were the most threatening without however creating clear chances. Except on a final header from Vanessa Gilles at the end of a confused action in front of the PSG goal after a free kick played from the right wing and a failed exit from goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi (23rd), former OL player. This then intervened on a resumption of the head of the American Lindsay Horan (28th). Horan was still dangerous on a header from above (62nd) but also on a free kick passing just wide (68th). Once again OL lacked impact in attack despite the efforts of Delphine Cascarino or Melvine Malard.

To end the year, the two clubs must try to ensure their qualification in the Champions League. OL are due to challenge Arsenal in London on December 15 before hosting Juventus Turin on the 21st, and PSG will host Real Madrid at the Parc des Princes on December 16 before moving to Chelsea on the 22nd.
