According to current forecasts, this number will increase significantly by 2050, to up to 1.082 million people. That is almost 90,000 more people in need of care than we had previously expected had,” said Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU).
The forecasts of the Bavaria 2050 care report were based on the latest care statistics for 2021, it said. “The current care statistics and the new forecasts make it clear: care is one of the greatest challenges for society as a whole of our time. Because with the increasing number of people in need of care, the need for care places and care staff also increases.”
Specifically, the increase in people in need of care means that the need for long-term care staff will increase by 53,328 to 142,551 full-time care workers by 2050. “That’s immense,” said Holetschek. In 2021, 89,224 nurses were employed in Bavaria in the care and support of people in need of care, including 43,458 nurses and 45,766 nursing assistants.
New forecast portal launched
“How the number of people in need of care, but also the number of care offers and nursing staff actually developed in detail from 2017 to 2021 and what the forecasts look like up to the year 2050 will be shown on our new Internet portal www.pflegebedarf2050.bayern from Monday .de vividly,” said Holetschek.
With the portal, the contents of the report would be made available digitally and could also be issued at regional level. “In this way, the independent cities, counties and districts receive support in creating the care requirement plan.”
