That was fast! Marcel Sabitzer is moving from Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund. The transfer hammer for the Austrian international was officially announced on Monday. SPORT1 had already reported on the upcoming deal on Sunday.
Sabitzer no longer played a role at Bayern, he had spent the last six months as a loan player at Manchester United. His contract was valid until 2025.
So now the step to BVB. Sabitzer is now signing there until 2027. Dortmund were willing to pay around 20 million euros including bonus payments for the 29-year-old. Bayern had paid RB Leipzig a transfer fee of 15 million euros for Sabitzer in the summer of 2021.
According to SPORT1 information, Sabitzer will earn 7 to 8 million euros per year. This puts him in the upper third of the team structure. However, Dortmund has certainly succeeded in adapting it to the new salary hygiene. Compared to Bayern, Sabitzer waives an annual salary of around 2 to 3 million.
Fixed agreement: Sabitzer already on Tuesday in the USA
It was not to be expected just a few days ago that the deal would go through so quickly. Sabitzer will join the team on Tuesday, together with sports director Kehl, who set off for the USA on Monday.
Sabitzer’s decision for BVB was surprising – also because he actually preferred the Premier League after his successful loan to ManUnited. The BVB bosses were able to convince him and his management of the change over the weekend.
“The talks with Borussia Dortmund’s managers were excellent and showed me how ambitious the club wants to be in the coming years,” said Sabitzer in the message from the Black and Yellows.

BVB director Kehl is looking forward to “an experienced player who has been playing at the top international level for years. He fits exactly the profile we were looking for: a central midfielder who will strengthen us both defensively and offensively as a box-to-box player.”
After Felix Nmecha, who came from VfL Wolfsburg for 30 million euros, Sabitzer is the second transfer to be signed for the vacant position at headquarters. The duo are set to make up for Jude Bellingham’s departure to Real Madrid.
