Things are going smoothly for Borussia Dortmund in the 1st Bundesliga. After eight match days, BVB is still unbeaten and is in fourth place with 20 points – level on points with FC Bayern. In the Champions League, however, things are not quite as great.
At the start, PSG clearly showed Borussia’s limits, Dortmund lost 2-0 in Paris. A poor 0-0 draw followed against AC Milan in front of a home crowd. The third group game is on Wednesday, BVB has to play Newcastle United.

The newly rich British, who have been owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund since 2021, surprised themselves at the start of the premier class. They picked up a point in Milan and then scored a spectacular 4-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain in their own living room, St. James’ Park.
BVB coach Edin Terzić appreciates Newcastle coach Eddi Howe
So BVB travels to the leaders of Group F – and can’t actually lose given their starting position. “It will be an intensive task that we are extremely looking forward to”coach Edin Terzić is quoted on the BVB website.

“They made very clever transfers,” praised the trainer, who finished fourth in the Premier League last year. He particularly appreciates the work of coach Eddi Howe. Terzić knows him from his time in England, where he was assistant coach at West Ham United between 2015 and 2017: “An excellent coach.”
Julian Brandt looked less at the coach and more at the atmosphere in St. James’ Park. The German international asked DFB colleague Pascal Groß about Newcastle United during the international break.
BVB: Julian Brandt teases Manchester City and Chelsea
Brandt, Dortmund’s winning goal scorer in the recent 1-0 win over Werder Bremen, took one thing in particular from the conversation with Groß: “We can expect a very good atmosphere there. It’s different to City or Chelsea.”
It reads like a small jibe at the two top clubs, who have been in the headlines in recent years more with gigantic transfer spending than with impressive choreos.

However, it is also true that both City and Chelsea were recently at least one size too big for BVB. During the group stage, Dortmund lost 2-1 in Manchester, followed by a 2-0 defeat in London in the round of 16, which meant they were eliminated from the premier class.
In order for the upcoming trip to England to be more successful than the last two, the BVB professionals must, according to Brandt, “go there with a broad chest. The group is so wild that anything can happen. We definitely need a win.”
Gregor Kobel is also aware of this. “We have to take something with us,” the goalkeeper knows and makes a demand to his colleagues: “We have to accept the fight from the start.” Otherwise, the Dortmund team will face a similar fate to the recent Newcastle guests. In addition to PSG, the “Magpies” also sent Crystal Palace home with four goals conceded.
