BVB’s missing piece of the puzzle?

Felix Nmecha was missing from BVB for almost four months. At the weekend he is about to make his comeback at Borussia Dortmund. There are great hopes for him.

Felix Nmecha has been back in BVB team training for ten days. Hip problems have forced the 23-year-old to take a break since the end of November.

In the fall he narrowly avoided an operation that would have meant an even longer absence. Nmecha worked hard for his return to team training, usually twice a day. The Hamburg native was usually the first at the training ground and the last to leave.

“He’s been very busy lately and couldn’t wait for team training. But we want to make sure he feels ready to give 100 percent. And we’ll also see how long he can do that. These are the things we have to decide,” said BVB coach Edin Terzic before the game against Bremen (Saturday, from 6:30 p.m. in SPORT1-Live ticker).

BVB star Nmecha before comeback: “We are very confident”

Nmecha returns to the squad at the weekend and could get his first minutes since the end of November.

“We wanted to give Felix Nmecha and his body the time he needed. We hope that he can quickly get back to what he indicated and showed before his injury. We are very confident that we have got this under control,” said Terzic.

Werder Bremen, of all people, is BVB’s upcoming opponent. Nmecha played his best game to date for the black and yellow against the North Germans in the first half of the season in a 1-0 win. The Dortmund team could really use a Nmecha in this form in the central midfield – physically robust, strong in running and, above all, ball-proof.

Nmecha on the verge of a comeback – waiting for the breakthrough

In Dortmund they think highly of their millionaire man. In the summer, the 23-year-old moved from VfL Wolfsburg, where he was one of the top performers, to Borussia Dortmund – for a whopping 30 million euros.

He has not yet been able to meet expectations. His record at BVB: ten appearances; two assists. He didn’t have the stakes to make a more detailed assessment.

BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl still sees “huge potential” in Nmecha and continues: “We can expect a lot from this player,” Kehl recently promised STAHLWERK double pass on SPORT1.

Nmecha with a difficult start at BVB

His start at BVB in the summer was more than unfavorable. Due to homophobic internet posts, the 23-year-old was received with great skepticism by Dortmund fans.

Plus, the footprints left by Jude Bellingham were huge. With his size and robustness, he meets these requirements and is reminiscent of the English superstar from Real Madrid – at least his style of play. So far he has only been able to show flashes of quality on the pitch sporadically.

After almost four months of suffering, Nmecha now has the opportunity to show again why BVB officials think so highly of him. Maybe in Bremen at the weekend.
