Clear, embarrassing, painful: BVB shows an unworthy performance against Ajax Amsterdam

The 0: 4 in Amsterdam leaves a powerful impact on Borussia Dortmund. The Dutch showed the team the limits too clearly. The historical attrition could have dire consequences for the further course of the season.
Nobody felt like making excuses. After Borussia Dortmund’s biggest defeat in the long history of the Champions League at 0: 4 (0: 2) in Amsterdam, everyone involved was talking Tacheles. The frustration sat too deep about the unworthy performance of a top Bundesliga team. “It was a lesson for us. We were shown our limits. This defeat is extremely painful,” complained Julian Brandt. Defensive boss Mats Hummels seemed as contrite as the midfielder: “We were clearly the worse team in all respects. You can say that we were still well served with the 0: 4.”
Like his players, Marco Rose made no secret of his state of mind and openly described them as “shitty”. Above all, the lack of conviction and body language of his professionals after the early 2-0 through the strong Daley Blind (25th) went against the grain of the BVB coach. “In the moment when it gets difficult, you have to find solutions. We still have to broadcast Borussia Dortmund. You have to show at every moment that you believe in being able to win the game.”
In two weeks, BVB will have to play in the second leg
It cannot be ruled out that the defeat in the roaring Johan Cruyff Arena will cause a momentous crack for the rest of the season. “It wasn’t on the plan that we should go under like this,” commented Marco Reus. The fact that the national player initiated the defeat with his own goal (11th) matched the used evening for BVB. Further hits by Blind, Antony (57th) and the ex-Frankfurt Sebastien Haller (72nd) rounded it off in a negative sense.
The next test of strength with the Dutch champions is already on November 3rd. In the event of a further defeat against the league leaders (9), BVB could still get into the round of 16 in jeopardy. Finally, the third in the table Sporting Lisbon (3) is only three points behind the table runner-up from Dortmund (6) after his victory over the last Besiktas Istanbul (0).
Brandt hopes for a suitable sporty response from his team: “With all the praise for Ajax, we still have the quality to beat such a team. You shouldn’t hang it higher than it is in the end. We’ll have it in two weeks Chance to do everything better. “
