Bundesliga: BVB without Kobel and Haller against Hoffenheim

Borussia Dortmund will once again be without Gregor Kobel in the game against TSG Hoffenheim. The goalkeeper is missing from the fourth-place team in the Bundesliga due to a muscle injury. He had complained about problems during the warm-up before the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League last Tuesday in Eindhoven (1-1) and was out at short notice. According to coach Edin Terzic, it remains unclear how long Kobel will be unavailable for: “We’ll have to wait and see how things develop in the coming weeks.”

In addition to Kobel, Sebastien Haller and Felix Nmecha are not yet options for the game on Sunday (5.30 p.m.). At least for midfielder Nmecha, there are signs of an imminent comeback after months of hip problems: “He will return to team training at the beginning of the week,” announced Terzic. Karim Adeyemi, on the other hand, is back in the squad against Hoffenheim. “But he is more of a candidate for the squad than for the starting eleven. The break was too long for that,” revealed Terzic.

After the poor 1-1 draw in Wolfsburg on the last Bundesliga matchday, Borussia is under pressure because pursuers Leipzig were able to reduce the deficit to one point. In addition, there were many wishes left unfulfilled in last Tuesday’s Champions League duel with PSV Eindhoven. Terzic believes the criticism of the team’s performance expressed by defense chief Mats Hummels is understandable: “Mats is completely right. There were things that we didn’t like.” According to Terzic, these weaknesses were worked out in training: “It’s not about describing things, but about solving them.”

At least the trend is in favor of a BVB victory, which would guarantee a stay in fourth place. After all, Dortmund have been undefeated in eight Bundesliga games, while the guests have been without a win in eight league games. “We know we have to get three points. That is the clear mission,” said Terzic, hoping for Borussia’s third win of the season over Hoffenheim. His team won 3-1 away in the first half of the Bundesliga and 1-0 at home in the second round of the DFB Cup.
