Butter prices keep going up.

The prices for German branded butter from various brands are now over three euros – and that for 250 grams.

The main reasons for this price increase are the increased production costs for farmers and milk production – because this is becoming increasingly scarce.

The question for consumers is how to buy cheap butter in the future.

Another idea: We show you how you can easily make butter yourself at home.

For homemade butter you need a little time and only one ingredient: cream, preferably with a fat content of at least 30 percent.

Put the cream in a screw-top jar and close tightly. However, the glass should not be filled to the top.

Now it’s time to shake vigorously. Alternatively, the whole thing can also be done with a hand mixer.

After a few minutes, the butter should separate from the buttermilk. Now you need to keep shaking until you get a solid lump of butter and a runny buttermilk is left.

Now pour off the milk. If necessary, this can be used for baking, for example.

To loosen the last of the buttermilk from the clump, hold the butter under running water and knead lightly with your hands.

Just pour the butter into a glass or something similar, let it set in the fridge and your homemade butter is ready.

Working hygienically and storing the finished butter is particularly important when making butter. It can keep in the fridge for up to three weeks.

By making your own butter you can not only save money but also reduce unnecessary packaging waste.
