Burst water pipe: flooding in Landwehrstrasse – Munich

A burst water pipe on Landwehrstrasse near Theresienwiese kept the fire department busy for four hours on Monday night: a 15 centimeter thick pipe broke between Paul-Heyse-Strasse and Sankt-Paul-Strasse around two in the morning. The water escaping under pressure washed out the road and came to the surface.

There it was spread over the entire Landwehrstrasse and ran down an exit into an underground car park and neighboring cellar rooms, where it was finally knee-deep. The fire department’s small alarm vehicle, which was the first to arrive, was unable to control the masses of water with just one pump. Four submersible pumps and three electric vacuum cleaners finally got the water out of the building while city utility workers shut off the line and began repairs. This should be completed late Monday afternoon.
