Burning Advent wreath triggers large-scale operation in Markt Schwaben – Ebersberg

A burning Advent wreath triggered a major fire brigade operation in Markt Schwaben on Friday morning. However, there was only minor property damage – thanks to an attentive walker, nothing worse happened.

As reported by the police, the 61-year-old saw around 6.15 a.m. while walking through the kitchen window that an Advent wreath on the ground floor of a terraced house was ablaze. The woman then immediately called the emergency services of the fire and rescue services.

40 volunteers from two fire brigades were in action

Since it was not impossible for the flames to spread and the resulting smoke also posed a risk to the residents of the house, a total of 40 volunteers from the Markt Schwaben and Ottenhofen fire brigades rushed to the scene of the fire. To be on the safe side, two ambulances and an ambulance were also ordered there. Two patrol crews from the Poing police station drove to record the fire.

The forces deployed arrived at the scene of the fire just as the fire was spreading to the kitchen table. The row house was evacuated, the seven residents were unharmed. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire brigade, so that according to the police there was only minor property damage estimated at 500 euros. The cause of the fire could clearly be determined by the Advent wreath covered with candles, which a 71-year-old resident could not fully identify. The woman is now expecting an administrative offense report for violating the regulations for preventing fires under the State Criminal and Ordinance Act. This violation will be prosecuted by the Ebersberg district office and may be subject to a fine.

The police once again urged that candles – especially on the Advent wreath where they are attached close to easily flammable materials – should not be left unattended in the apartment. In the past, this has repeatedly resulted in damaging fires.
