The Burkinabè government is said to have demanded the departure of French troops deployed on its territory, Burkinabè radio and television reported on Saturday (January 21st), quoting the Burkina Information Agency (AIB).

Radiodiffusion Télévision du Burkina (RTB) reported that the Burkinabè government suspended on January 18 a military agreement dating from 2018 which authorized the presence of French soldiers in Burkina Faso. France would have one month to withdraw its troops from the country, RTB said, citing AIB, Burkina’s news agency. According to the agency, the Burkinabè government would have denounced the agreement, Wednesday January 18, 2023.

The move would come as protests targeting France have multiplied in recent months in Burkina Faso.
