The title sounds impressively simple: “Less, simpler, more digital. Reduce bureaucracy. Make Germany fit for the future.” This is the title of the annual report of the National Regulatory Control Council for 2023. On 90 pages, the federal government’s independent advisory committee attests to its good will to curb the mass of laws and administrative regulations in Germany. However, resounding successes in the promised reduction of bureaucracy are still pending. And further down in the report, which was presented in Berlin on Monday, the rapporteurs sound the alarm.
