At least Werder Bremen got one point in Gladbach. Still, something is missing away from home. The last away win was a long time ago.

Werder Bremen simply can’t win away from home anymore. The 2:2 (1:1) at Borussia Mönchengladbach gave Werder only their second away point this season. Coach Ole Werner’s team has been waiting for a three-point win in a foreign venue for ten games across the season.

“What we’re missing is that we’re just as consistent away from home as we are at home,” complained Werner, who was nevertheless very happy with his team’s performance – in contrast to midfielder Mitchell Weiser. “We can be happy that we even got a point,” complained the 29-year-old.

Both Werder’s goals from Rafael Borré (7th minute) and Marvin Duksch (76th) came after serious positional errors in the Gladbach defense. After a brace from Gladbach’s shooting star Rocco Reitz (45th/49th), Borussia were significantly closer to victory. “We allowed ourselves a phase that was immediately punished,” complained Weiser. “We gave that up too easily.”

After all, according to the statistics service provider Opta, Marvin Ducksch set a Werder record. The national player scored ten away goals this year – only Rudi Völler (1983 and 1985) had previously achieved that.
