The coaching question at FC Bayern is one of the most exciting stories in the Bundesliga. According to the Spanish sports newspaper “Marca” there is news about Zinédine Zidane.
There is new speculation about a world star in the search for a coach at FC Bayern Zinedine Zidane (51). As the Spanish sports newspaper “Marca” reported on Sunday without citing another source, the Munich team is said to have contacted the agent of the former successful Real Madrid coach in the past few days.
Bayern are said to have expressed their interest in signing him if Zidane wanted to take over a club again.
Bayern had agreed with their current coach Thomas Tuchel to end the contract, which actually runs until the end of June 2025, early this summer. Since then there have been repeated rumors about the future Bayern coach. The name Julian Nagelsmann, who has a contract as national coach with the German national team until after the end of the European Championship this summer, also comes up regularly.
FC Bayern is working on a solution
“I’m working on it, we’re working on it,” Munich’s sports director Max Eberl recently answered when asked whether a new coach would be announced in April. “The white smoke will eventually rise.”
Sports director Christoph Freund said after the 2-0 win in the Bundesliga against 1. FC Köln on Saturday about the status of the coaching search and a possible schedule: “There is no deadline.” Freund was asked about Nagelsmann’s possible return, but he did not comment on names.
Zidane wants to go back to the coaching bench
Zidane, a former world and European champion, announced an imminent return to the coaching bench in February. However, the Frenchman left it open where and when he would join again. “At the moment I’m doing other things, we’ll see, but I’m sure I’ll be on the bench again. I’d like to do that,” Zidane said at an event in Rome.
The three-time world footballer trained Real Madrid from 2016 to 2018 and most recently from 2019 to 2021. With the “Royal” he won the Champions League three times in a row, among other things. Since his departure from Madrid, there has been repeated speculation about a coaching comeback at various clubs. For example at Juventus Turin, where Zidane was active as a player, or as the French national coach. In France, national coach Didier Deschamps has extended his contract until the 2026 World Cup.
