Things got uncomfortable today in the game between Vfl Bochum and 1. FC Köln. There was a clash between the police and fans. Pepper spray was used.

There was a crash again. During the Bundesliga game between VfL Bochum and 1. FC Köln there was an incident between fans of the guests and the Police came. According to the police, the officers had to assist the stewards in entering the stadium because supporters of Cologne’s “problem fan scene” had exerted great pressure. Pepper spray was also used “for a short time”. The Cologne Fan Aid wrote on X, formerly Twitter, about an “excessive police operation”.

The fan representatives said that entry into the Ruhrstadion had been enormously delayed. As the game continued, some Cologne fans left the guest block again. The police said that there were delays at the exit due to coordination with the club. According to Fanhilfe, pepper spray was used again: “Several injuries resulted from this action.” The police confirmed to the German Press Agency that some people had to be treated.

Fans criticize the use of the police

In the second league there was already excitement about a police operation at the FC St. Pauli game against Hannover 96 on Friday. Here too, fan representatives criticized the actions of the police officers. The officials justified the operation in the fan block with the need to protect a Hanoverian supporter.
