Bundesliga: Pal Dardai sacked at Hertha BSC

Status: 11/29/2021 10:29 a.m.

The troubled Bundesliga soccer team Hertha BSC reacted to the sporting stagnation and separated from coach Pal Dardai.

The Berliners announced the end of Hungary two days after the sobering draw against relegation rivals FC Augsburg (1: 1) on Monday morning (29.11.2021). Andreas Neuendorf and Admir Hamzagic will also be released from their duties as assistant coaches.

The new head coach will initially be Tayfun Korkut. The 47-year-old gets a contract until the end of the current season. Korkurt will assist Ilja Aračić as an assistant coach.

New impulses with Korkut

Korkut previously trained Hannover 96, 1.FC Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart. “With Tayfun Korkut we would like to give the team new impulses. He has already proven in the past that he can not only stabilize a team, but also develop it with his meticulous work and ideas about football,” said Hertha’s Managing Director for Sport, Fredi Bonic, on the personnel.

Korkut’s last engagement in the Bundesliga was more than three years ago. At the beginning of October 2018, he was dismissed from VfB Stuttgart after scoring only five points from the first seven games of the 2018/19 season with VfB.

Dardai had managed to stay up

Dardai started his job as head coach at Hertha at the end of January. After the 18th matchday of the 2020/21 season, Hertha was in 14th place with 17 points and was in danger of relegation. Thanks to just one defeat in the last nine games, Dardai kept Hertha in the Bundesliga. His contract is still valid until June 2022.
