Thomas Tuchel was already expecting Julian Nagelsmann’s contract extension with the DFB. This means there is no coaching candidate at FC Bayern. Could Tuchel imagine his own U-turn?

For Thomas Tuchel is not reconsidering his position as FC Bayern coach, which will only last until the summer. “I have an agreement with the club that has been communicated and stands,” emphasized Tuchel on Friday before the guest appearance in the Bundesliga on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) at 1. FC Union Berlin. Tuchel was asked whether he could imagine perhaps continuing with Munich.

Shortly before the press conference it was announced that Julian Nagelsmann would continue as national coach until the 2026 World Cup. Nagelsmann, Tuchel’s predecessor at FC Bayern, was also considered a hot candidate to succeed him at the German record champions.

“Rudi and Julian are a very harmonious team”

Bayern agreed with Tuchel at the end of February to end the contract, which actually runs until the end of June 2025, early this summer. Since then there have been repeated rumors about the future Bayern coach.

Tuchel said that he had recently expected Nagelsmann’s contract extension with the DFB following the expansion of his collaboration with national team director Rudi Völler. “I see Rudi and Julian as a very harmonious team, they are a good team and complement each other very well and support each other.”

The decision was good for the national team “because it brings clarity,” said Tuchel. Now the DFB team has to take the momentum from the recent successful tests into the European Championship. “Then they have to put it all together,” added Tuchel with a laugh.
