Eintracht Frankfurt is back on course for the European Cup. But board spokesman Hellmann also sets other topics after the victory over Augsburg.

Axel Hellmann came for two minutes and three messages. “I wish everyone a wonderful evening, thank you,” said the Eintracht Frankfurt board spokesman after his remarkable monologue in the interview zone.

The 52-year-old had previously been upset about the video evidence after Eintracht’s 3-1 win against FC Augsburg, praised the enthusiastic fans in the stadium and thanked everyone who supported his relatives after the death of Bernd Hölzenbein.

When it came to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), Hellmann was annoyed by a scene with Omar Marmoush in which there was no penalty for the Hessians. “Why isn’t that a penalty? I don’t understand it. I’d like to understand it. You have to look at something like that up close. We’re back to the debate we’ve always had: What’s the point of VAR? if such a story is not even called out? That is clear foul play,” commented Hellmann. So “the whole topic makes no sense.”

Even before questions about video evidence or the German Football League’s (DFL) sudden auction stop in matters of media rights were possible, Hellmann said goodbye. In contrast to his board colleague Markus Krösche, the board spokesman, who was interim DFL managing director and still sits on the league association’s executive board, is rarely found in the interview zone after games.
