After a pro-Palestinian social media post, Noussair Mazraoui is allowed to remain in the FC Bayern squad. The Moroccan condemns terrorism in Israel.

Noussair Mazraoui remains in the squad after the controversy over a pro-Palestinian social media post FC Bayern Munich.

According to a statement from the German record champions, the Moroccan full-back regrets the “irritation”. He condemns “every type of terrorism and every terrorist organization,” says Mazraoui. The 25-year-old had previously shared a video on social networks wishing the Palestinians a victory in the conflict with Israel.

“He regrets it”

“Noussair Mazraoui has credibly assured us that, as a peace-loving person, he resolutely rejects terror and war. He regrets if his posts have caused irritation,” says CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “FC Bayern condemns Hamas’ attack on Israel.” The full-back will be missing on Saturday against FSV Mainz 05 but is injured.

“FC Bayern and Noussair Mazraoui resolutely oppose the transfer of the Middle East conflict and its violence to Germany, which is committed to peace. Hatred and violence of any kind have no place in Germany’s political culture,” the statement said. “FC Bayern stands with the Jewish community in Germany and with Israel; nothing justifies the murder of children and families.”

Tuchel welcomes decision

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel welcomed the club’s decision. “I stand by the content and this statement 100 percent,” explained the Munich coach. It is a topic that goes “beyond sport”.

For Tuchel, it’s about keeping Mazraoui in the community and at the same time responding to Peretz. “I have great confidence in the effect of a dressing room,” said the Munich coach. “We don’t have an ideal world in the cabin, but a cabin has a healing effect across all borders.”

Club reaction “appropriate”

The Central Council of Jews criticized Mazraoui’s behavior, but classified FC Bayern’s reaction as appropriate. “Professional footballers have a role model. Unfortunately, Noussair Mazraoui did not live up to this. This would have required more remorse and self-correction after such an unspeakable Instagram post,” it said in a statement. However, the Munich team’s reaction was “appropriate also in view of the club’s always clear stance (…).”
