On the island for the home European Championship: Timo Werner is about to return to London. Instead of Chelsea, this time it will be a northern rival.

National player Timo Werner is facing a surprising change.

According to dpa information, the 27-year-old from RB Leipzig is to be loaned out to Tottenham Hotspur for six months. The negotiations are well advanced, but not yet in the final phase. Details such as a purchase option still need to be clarified. Sky first reported about it.

Werner is currently with the team at the training camp in La Manga, Spain. A test match against FC St. Gallen is planned for the afternoon (3 p.m.). It was initially unclear whether Werner would be used in the game.

In the camp, Werner appeared to be much more relaxed than in the past few weeks in Leipzig and appeared to be much more motivated. In Leipzig it was recently assumed that the striker would not change in the winter.

Through a possible transfer, Werner is hoping for more playing time and thus better chances of taking part in the home European Championships this year. He lost his regular place in Leipzig, was never in the starting eleven in the Champions League and only twice in the Bundesliga.

Werner already played for Chelsea from 2020 to 2022, who signed the attacker from Leipzig for 53 million euros. A year and a half ago, the Swabian returned to Saxony for 20 million euros, but since then has not proven to be the reinforcement he was hoping for.
