Every fan in football Germany knows this shooting position very well!
Leaders Bayer Leverkusen continued their winning streak after the international break, winning 2-1 in Wolfsburg. Jeremie Frimpong (22) copies the Bundesliga logo!
The scene of the game in the 13th minute: Wolfsburg literally CATCHES the score 0-1.
Frimpong brings the ball onto the goal from a tight angle after a Boniface cross, substitute keeper Pervan (playing for the injured Casteels) calmly picks up the ball and wants to continue playing. The only problem: after a quick look at his goal-line technology watch, referee Fritz shows that the ball was already behind the line. The lead for Leverkusen!
What’s immediately noticeable in the replay is that Leverkusen’s winger copies the Bundesliga logo when he scores and takes the same stance as the player on the famous emblem when he shoots in the air. Leverkusen leadership? Yes, of course!
After the game, BILD Frimpong shows the comparison in the mixed zone. The Dutchman laughs: “That’s really one hundred percent like that. The leg, the arm, the ball, great!”
Wolfsburg reacted immediately and was the better team in the first half after falling behind. Shortly before the break, VfL rewarded itself. After Arnold’s corner, Tah first blocks a Svanberg shot, the rebound lands directly at Jenz, who cleverly crosses it again. Central defender colleague Lacroix just has to push in – 1:1 (41st)!
Only with substitute Wirtz, whom coach Xabi Alonso had initially left on the bench after the USA trip with the DFB, did Leverkusen get stronger again after a good hour. The national player fights for the ball in the opposing penalty area, Stanisic passes through to Frimpong, who easily beats Lacroix in the goal scorers’ running duel. Grimaldo converted the cross from the backcourt to make the final score 2-1 (63′).
Frimpong (3 goals, 4 assists) and Grimaldo (3 goals, 3 assists) – these wingers are masterful! Match winner Frimpong even scores again, but is called back for an offside position.
In the end, Leverkusen’s series holds: Alonso’s team wins for the seventh time this season after taking the lead – and thus always so far. The reward: Bayer takes back the league lead from Friday’s game winners BVB. Wolfsburg, however, suffered their first defeat in their fourth home game.
